It's beginning to look a lot like ......
We're barely into November and already shops are full of Christmas decorations and playing cheesy Christmas songs. At Fenham Ensemble, we're well into rehearsals for two special events in our festive calendar:
* * * We're really looking forward to our Advent concert at St James' and St Basil's church on Sunday 4th December, starting at 7.00pm. The programme will include the contemporary and atmospheric Advent Antiphons by Bob Chilcott, which is new to the choir and is especially magical in the lovely acoustic of Js &Bs. We're also singing the Mass in G Minor by Ralph Vaughan Williams, a really beautiful piece of music and unmistakably RVW. This will be interspersed with some Russian sacred music from the 19th and 20th centuries. Other works include those by choir-favourite, Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo, a gorgeous arrangement of Gabriel's message by Jim Clements and contemporary compositions by Johnathan Dove and Philip Stopford. A concert to warm your soul, get you into the festive spirit and definitely not to miss. Guaranteed no cheese! Tickets available on the door or from Eventbrite. See the poster below for details. Wrap up warm!
* * * On Sunday 18th December at 6pm we will be singing at the traditional Nine Lessons and Carols Service at St James' and St Basil's church, singing unaccompanied Christmas choral pieces old and new and joining with the congregation and organist for some rousing carols. A lovely way to start the week leading up to Christmas Day. All welcome.
