We all need a bit of Serenity...
We are so excited to be joined for our next concert by Gabriel Waite, Sub-Principal Cellist with the Royal Northern Sinfonia.
Our theme is Serenity (and don't we all need a bit of that right now?) with a selection of beautiful pieces written for cello and voice creating a calm and serene mood in the magical acoustic of St James' and St Basil's church in Fenham. Our Director, Simon Davies-Fidler, has put together a really gorgeous programme that we just can't wait to perform. Rehearsals are well under way and it's already sounding really quite beautiful.
The concert will include well-known works for cello and voice, 'Out of the Deep' from Rutter's Requiem, 'Benedictus' by Karl Jenkins' 'The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace' and 'Svyati' by John Tavener alongside newer works including Ola Gjeilo's 'Serenity (0 Magnum Myserium)', 'The Oak' by Becky McGlade and a piece written especially for this concert by our very own Eleanor Cully Boehringer entitled 'Swan', a setting of text by Sarah Boulton. We will also perform 'Hope is the Thing with Feathers' by Christopher Tin, from his Grammy-nominated 'The Lost Birds'. To complete our serene programme Gabriel will play movements from cello suites by Bach, Britten and Saariaho including the sublime 'Prelude' from J S Bach's Cello Suite No.1 in G major.
The concert is on Saturday 18th March 2023 at 7.30pm at St James' and St Basil's Church, Fenham NE4 9EJ
Tickets are £12 and available from serenitycello.eventbrite.co.uk Best to book early!
